East Nashville - safe areas?

We are considering booking accommodations through Airbnb or VRBO for our upcoming trip to Nashville & it looks like there are quite a few places in East Nashville that look nice but am wondering if there are certain streets or areas of East Nashville that aren't so safe? We will have a car. It looks like some of the listings reference areas within East Nashville (e.g, Shelby park, Lockewood, Five points). How does this area compare to the 12 South area in terms of shops, cafés, bars & safety? Thanks.

I'm with Downola. No, that isn't a safe area to walk, even during the day unless it's super busy. I know a lot of people park in that area and walk for the Titans games, which is OK because of the number of people. I don't know how the crowd is in that area for the CMA Fest events at LP Field. Nobody will be parking over there and walking over the bridge to downtown for the other CMA Fest related events at the live venues and the Music City Center.

Woodland St is really the only connecting street I would consider walking at night between East Nashville and Nissan Stadium (formerly LP Field).

I have walked other streets, but only after Titans games where there is a significant crowd of people in the immediate area. With CMA Fest, I'm not sure there are as many people on that side of the stadium to feel safe.

Hello! My husband and I are planning a trip to Nashville in February. We're looking at a timeshare via VRBO (Wyndham). It appears to be NE of East Nashville. A friend advised us simply not to go East of 24 due to crime, etc. but I can't locate any reasonably priced places outside of this area (NE East Nashville/East Nashville). Obviously, I know that in order to a lot of the attractions in central Nashville we'll have to cab/Uber, etc. How safe is the area near the Grand Ole Opry? The resort is located near McGavock Pike & Pennington Bend Road? THANKS!!

When we talk about going East of I-24, we mean the area from the river downtown towards the east when it meets the river again. There are no hotels over there that are worth staying in (IMO) and the neighborhood has large swaths of great areas along with some bad ones. Most of this thread has been to help folks find VRBO or AirBnB or FlipKey properties in that neighborhood. that area is generally referred to as East Nashville.

Opryland is a different animal all together. It's not a high crime area. Notice that there are no bridges connecting Opryland to East Nashville. that's good in that it keeps the high crime area disconnected, but it's bad because you have a circuitous route to get to downtown. The Wyndham is off by itself in the Opryland area. You could probably walk to a honky tonk called the Nashville Palace, but you'll be driving anywhere else. Google Maps can show you more. Use their Street View feature. Personally, I wouldn't book the Wyndham (or anything else in Opryland) unless I had a car or planned to do a lot of touristing in Opryland (Grand Ole Opry House tour, shows at the Opry House or Gaylord Events Center, shopping at Opry Mills mall, etc. I recall someone mentioning in another thread that someone is now running a shuttle between downtown and Opryland. If you find more info on that, that's the only way that I'd do Opryland. I value my vacation time too much to spend it commuting from where I stay to where I want to visit.

Hi All,

Looking to book a place on Meadow Rose Dr and Rosebank Ave. This is east of riverside drive and i think its more in an area called "RoseBank" ....is this area good and safe? Also- they told me an uber would be about $7 to downtown nashville- but it looks pretty far on a map- any advice you can offer would be appreciated!

That intersection is fine. It's not walking distance to anything, but I wouldn't have a big safety concern with staying there.

We're looking at renting a home for a 5 day getaway in May. The home is in East Nashville around McClurkin & Gallatin. Is this a safe area? When I Google Map it and look at the street view, it looks kind of run down.

Thanks for any feedback you can provide.

That area is in the very early stages of revitalizing and it remains to be seen if it will be successful or not. There are a few maintained homes in there, but the area overall is still sketchy. I'd look for something south of that.

We are looking at booking a vrbo in June. Here are a few of the streets/intersection areas (approximately) the places we are looking at are near. Any thoughts? We will have our young kids with us so we would love to be able to walk around with them during the day (possible to outdoor activities) and were hoping to be able to possibly walk to restaurants/bars during the day and at night (at night sans kids). We certainly can cab/uber too.

Baxter Ave and Hart Lane

Stratford and Kennedy Ave

N 14th St and McKennie Ave

Cleveland and Myrtle St

Franklin Ave, East of N 14th St

Skyview Dr, South of Eastland Ave

Ordway Pl and N 16th St (2 options)

McGavock Pike, East of Oxford St

Thanks!

Skyview - OK but not close to anything except the Shelby Bottoms Park; Ordway addresses - good location overall; Stratford/Kennedy and Oxford area, not walking distance to things; N 14 and McKennie also a little far out; Cleveland Myrtle, Baxter/Hart, I wouldn't
