Dining your way around Kyneton!

I was surprised to read that Kyneton is a great place for foodies with lots of high quality dining establishments. Its only about a 45 mins drive away from Melbourne.

"If ever a country town could be said to punch above its weight food-wise, it’s Kyneton. According to the most recent edition of The Age Good Food Guide, the only other place in regional Victoria with more listings than Kyneton (population 6000) is Geelong (175 000)."

Thought Id share this article which also lists some accomodation options:

Not just Kyneton either, Castlemaine & Maldon also have some good foodie places. The goldfields region is a great place to visit for a weekend. It's been a couple of years since I've been up that way, time for another trip I think!

Thanks for sharing the article Tommo:)

Second a vote for Annie Smithers.

IMO the Macedon Ranges are one of Victoria's best kept secrets!

Woodend is another small town in the area which has come a long way in the past few years. It has some excellent eateries and interesting shops.

I agree Evamelb. There are some excellent wineries up that way as well, but very few tourists would even know about it. Kyneton is easily visited by train I believe, so could be a good day trip for non driving foodies:)

An addition to this list needs to be made. La Bonta in Piper street has been open for around a year and is fantastic Itilian.
