Where is the best spot to stay?

This will be our first time to Falls. We prefer green runs & sometimes blue. We really want to be handy (really really handy!) to lifts. Which lift is the best for us? And which hotel/apartment is the closest? We also like to be really handy to restaurants/shops.

I am currently looking at either Quay West or an apartment at Snow Ski. Snow Ski is a lot cheaper but I'm not sure of the quality of the apartments and we have high standards.

Hi,

If you really love to travel and want to save some money, providing you are staying for five days or more, look on the other side of the ditch. For more than the last ten years we have travelled to NZ (Queenstown) and even with car hire the entire holiday is cheaper than just the accommodation in OZ. Better snow and no trees too.

Cheers,

Yes good idea - but we've heard you can stay on the mountain (ie ski in-ski out). Do you have to drive/bus to the lifts every day??

No accommodation on the mountain in Queenstown - you need to take a bus up to the mountain daily.

If you have high standards, definately stay at either QuayWest or Alpine Woodsmoke. QuayWest has the BEST position on the mountain by far. I think personally it is overpriced, but our room was serviced daily when we were there.

We have made the move to the Country Club, and we love it there.

Think about Alpine View Apartments. 50 meters to lift to access the whole skiing area. Food close by and very comfortable with good amenities.Amazing views from the 2 bedroom apartment we stayed in.

Plenty of great accommodation available - alpine woodsmoke, altezza, summit ridge, astra, freuhaff, ropers & QT are all top rated.

QT & ropers are the closest to the falls express lift. Summit ridge is near eagle's chair. The others will require you to ski tto the lift or take the shuttle.

The QT is right beside a lift to a lot of runs. Luxury accommodation and priced accordingly. Probably the best placed if there isn't a lot of snow which shouldn't be a problem this year ;) Really any of the accommodation in FC isn't far away from a lift in seasons like this. The Falls Creek Country Club is right beside the gully lift and as an added advantage you can drive to the front door to unload your luggage.
