Given the extent of your questions, I think your best bet is to go through this forum for your answers. These questions have all been answered and discussed before in other posts.

Simply putting it, there is a lot to do downtown, that is where the main attractions are. It's hard to say what areas of Memphis are 'safe' since that can change neighborhood by neighborhood. The main part of downtown is safe. East Memphis (along Poplar) is safe. Midtown can be fine. The NE suburbs are fine. 10 nights here is pushing it. I'd suggest you plan to drive to another city to spend about half of that.

Hi

Why not go to Tunica, Ms, it's only about 20-25 miles from downtown, even closer from Graceland.

A couple of days playing the casino's, you might just strike it lucky, and even if you don't, it's worth the experience.

In my opinion, 10 nights is too long time for Memphis alone. I definitely agree with spending several nights in another location. If you like to gamble, Tunica is fun (I do like to gamble), but there is NOTHING else to do there. The casinos are out in the middle of cotton fields and most are far enough from each other that you need to drive between them.

Can you fly into Memphis and out from another city? That would be ideal and there are lots of cities in the U.S. that could easily provide you with lots of interesting things to do.

As for your stay in Memphis, I'd definitely recommend staying downtown. Downtown has lots of restaurants and tourist activities within walking distance. For accommodations, there are lots of good options. One of our current favorites is the downtown Marriott Residence Inn. Each room has a fully equipped kitchen (which you'll probably want for an extended stay, even if just for cold drinks, and they have a free breakfast that's really, really good. I'm sure others will have lots of good ideas! Congratulations on your upcoming wedding!

hi all,

many thanks for your replies, looks like its back to the drawing board for the honeymoon part of the trip,

as we both like rockabilly & rocknroll we thought jackson may be an idea, it doesnt seem so busy, any opinions?

also, does anyone know of any e-friend sites that we could maybe find some friends around the area with a view to meeting up when we get there and keeping in touch with afterwards!

many thanks again.

There is nothing really in Jackson. I think you'd like Nashville, which is about 3-4 hours away. Atlanta is about 6 hours and has a ton to do there. I'd suggest one of those cities if you are looking to travel elsewhere. Depends on the season, but you could drive 6 hours south and stay at the beach along the gulf coast for a few days.

10 days is a long time to spend in this area...once you have done the whole Elvis thing that is...I would suggest hiring a car and driving off somewhere or maybe book an internal flight to NY, Nashville even Vegas, but certainly dont spend it all in Memphis you will truly be bored after 3 days!

I hope you will still be able to spend some time in Memphis as well. There are some very nice attractions in town. Nashville is nice too, but not worth 10 days (honestly there are few cities that I could see spending 10 days in without breaking the bank). I hope you can split it up 50/50. Congratulations on the wedding!
