Priceline - how far in advance

We are coming to Memphis early August for a Fri/Sat stay. We're planning on getting a 3+ star room downtown. Does anyone know how far in advance we need to secure these rooms?

It looks like Hotwire has the Peabody for $123/night, which is a great price. We'd like to be a reasonable walking distance from Beale, but it's not a dealbreaker. We also plan on taking in a Redbirds game.

You don't give your exact dates, but keep in mind that Elvis week is Aug. 10 - 18 and the city will be very busy then. Other than that, August is not overly busy, but very hot. In recent years, the local public schools have started the first week of Aug., so that cuts down on some of the local crowd.

BTW, that is a very good deal on the Peabody.

I would wait a little longer until the baseball schedule is issued (www.memphisredbirds.com), book a date within your target range, and grab that Priceline rate asap, because it's around $100 lower than the lowest published rates at The Peabody. Remember, however that the hotel is not responsible for any non documented agreement between you and Priceline, and doesn't have to move your room location or add any upgrades because it is part of a group of rooms reserved in advance at the Priceline rate, which is the way Priceline operates. The Peabody is known as "The South's Grand Hotel", and the furnishings will be great, but many of the standard rooms are slightly smaller than more recently built properties. It is, after all a historic hotel.
