Dinner on a Missisippi Riverboat in March

Hi All.

We are visiting Memphis for my 40th birthday in March and would like to take an evening trip down the Missisippi on one of the steamboats, hopefully taking in a meal along the way.

We are from the UK, so this is hopefully a trip of a lifetime.

Please can you advise if there are any such boat trips/companies offering this service in March.

If anyone has done this before, please could you tell me about your experience, positive or negative and any tips

Many Thanks in Advance.....Great Forum...Really Helpful People!

Hi,

We have not been on a cruise and meal. We went on the trip up the river and back.It was in the afternoon in April 03 and it was scorching hot.

We were a little disapointed about the trip, we thought we would have gone a bit further, but still, it was a cute thing to do.

We too live in England and are going back again in April,(3rd time) we will probably go on the trip again. If you go to WWW.memphisqueen.com it will tell you everything you want to know, it has a calender on it so you can see just what trips they do.

Hope this helps, have a good trip.

P.S are you going to Graceland?

Kevin

Hi ,

We took one of these afternoon cruises last April (2004) although we didn't have the meal , we thought that it was over with a little quicker than we expected.

Like the previous post the weather was very hot indeed although the breeze on the boat cooled us down.

We're going back to Memphis in December to take in the xmas lights at Graceland as we've been the last two times in spring.

You'll have a great time, Memphis is a great city to visit , not just for us Elvis fans, the people are so laid back and friendly that you won't believe it.

Cheers

Simon

Boy, do I have good advice for you!

We took a Memphis Riverboat Cruise last summer, which did not include dinner. But, the cruise was not air conditioned, and would not be heated most likely. It was very disappointing. However, we took a different cruise in the fall from Tunica, and it was wonderful. It was in the evening, included dinner and dancing, and could not have been better in this area. You can see the casinos from the boat, and that's neat. The food was pretty decent, and the music was nice. You don't get much history and can't see the land after dark, but turuthfully, there's not much to see, and not much history given on the other cruise we took anyways. We live in Mississippi, near the river, and can speak with confidence on what to recommend for a nice little river trip. The cruise we liked leaves from the Tunica Riverpark, where the new museum is located. FYI- Tunica is about 15 minutes south on HIghway 61 from Memphis. Good Luck!

March is obviously a time for 40th birthday's and visiting Memphis - my daughter and I are taking my husband, who also turns 40 this year, to New Orleans, Memphis, Tupelo and Nashville in March - he is an absolute Elvis fanatic and cannot wait for it. Which hotel are you staying in?? The trip advisor site has helped so much and the forums are great. I found Amazon a great site for books on New Orleans and Memphis and managed to pick new maps up for 68p. Anyway, hope you have a lovely time. Sharon (Bristol)

Many thanks to all for your help and advice. So many helpful folks out there.

I think we will be taking the Tunica cruise and not the one from Memphis. Just a couple more questions question, how many miles is the Tuica cruise start point from Germantown area of Memphis and how much did you pay for the cruise with dinner included?

You asked, " Just a couple more questions question, how many miles is the Tunica cruise start point from Germantown area of Memphis ?"

Tunica is a looong way from Germantown. Depending on traffic, expect to spend over an hour driving to Tunica.

I concur with your decision to pass on the Memphis riverboat rides. I've endured two of them for the sake of visiting relatives and hope never to repeat it.
