Lots of courses allow visitors. I think Royal Troon has some restrictions on visitors and female visitors, but there are about 10 other courses, and about another 20 within 10 miles.

Try Lochgreen.

No doubt there are websites for golf courses and there's a golf forum on Tripadvisor.

Royal Troon allows visitors on 3 weekdays per week in summer months. You have to apply well and advance as it gets booked up quickly-you can book online. It costs someting in the region of £130 for a round IIRC. Google Royal Troon and you'll get all the details on the clubs website

Troon has 3 excellent public courses, Lochgreen, Darley and Fullarton. Visitors are very welcome. Full details at http://www.golfsouthayrshire.com/

You are in a hotbed of golf. O

Another top course is Dundonald, which is an offshoot of Loch Lomond. Expensive and difficult to book, but might be of interest.

Further south is the Open course at Turnberry, and there are Open qualifying courses dotted around.

If you don't want to do it all yourself, there are many companies that will book everything and lay on transport.

Actually the £130 green fee at Troon is only at the end of the season when daylight means only 1 round is possible. The Spring/summer rate is £180 which us for 2 rounds, one on the Old and one on the Portland.

Royal Troon visitor availability is same for men & women, just the handicap limit differs. Women can't be members but they can be visitors.

Other courses - Western Gailes, Prestwick, Kilmarnock Barassie, Dundonald, Prestwick St Nicholas, Glasgow Gailes, West Kilbride to name a few. Public (municipal) courses include Belleisle, Lochgreen & Darley. Also a couple of save money golf passes available. Search for Gailes golf experience for details of one of the options.
