Golden Coast Holiday Park - Woolacombe

Decided to holiday in this country and have just booked 2 weeks at the above site in the summer.

Got a 15 and 13 yr old, thought there looked lots for them to do.

Chosen a top range caravan over the other accommodation in the hope that it will be excellent standard.

Any comments/useful tips/ideas would be really helpful as feeling a little apprehensive, having holidayed abroad for many years.

The Woolacombe Bay holiday parks are nice, busy caravan sites. We used to have a caravan up at Easewell Farm (the smallest site) and had many happy weeks up there over the Devon summers.

The Golden Coast is the biggest of the four sites owned by W. Bay and has the largest on-site pools, indoor and outdoor. These tend to be hugely busy in the summer months, but are still good to have so near by. You can use the facilities at any of the other W. Bay camps, too, and can travel between the parks on the open top bus (the pool at Twitchen is really nice). The bus will also take you down to Woolacombe, although this costs a little money from memory.

Woolacombe is a beautiful, sandy beach but it gets PACKED in the summer, with surfers and families taking up almost every square inch of the beach!!! It is lifeguarded, too.

Nearby Mortehoe is a lovely little town, and can be reached on foot or by bus from Woolacombe. There is a secluded National Trust beach, Rockham Bay, which is a 20 minute walk from the village. There are beautiful coastal walks to Morte Point and around to Rockham Lighthouse, too. In the summer the NT run guided tractor rides and some walks lead by David Kennard, author or 'Mist - a Sheepdog Puppy.

Both Woolacombe and Mortehoe have plenty of places to eat, too.

Ilfracombe is nearby, and is good for slot-machines and similar seaside fun, although the Victorian resort is now one of the most run down in North Devon, sadly. It does have a cinema, however, if the weather lets you down.

Hope that helps and have a great visit :-)

Barnstaple has a theatre and cinema. Ilfracombe also has a theatre.

Hire bikes and go on the Tarka trail.

You must try Hockins ice cream whilst you are down here. It is made locally in Appledore everyday. It is made with Clotted cream.
