Hotel for disabled

Please could anyone recommend a hotel in St. Helier which has single rooms with low access walk in shower suitable for someone with walking difficulties. We are looking for a hotel with lift and with very few steps and with a car park. I have been ringing round various hotels but am struggling to find somewhere suitable.

Please can anyone help!

Err, I googled disabled holidays jersey and got lots of hits, including a purpose built facility for the disabled, Maison Des Landes. I suspect you may need to widen your criteria beyond St Helier - you will need to decide which is more important, being in St Helier or finding a hotel that meets your needs.

Regulations for the disabled are not the same on Jersey as the UK so sometimes information that Hotels have Disabled facilities can be a bit misleading. It might only mean that the Hotel has good access for wheelchair users or those with walking difficulties.

www.jersey.com will have information regarding the disabled visitor to Jersey - put disabled in the search box.

Questions similiar to your's have come up on here before and the Radisson was recommended , it's a recently built Hotel so I would expect the facilities to be more purpose built than some of the older Hotels on the island. It does have a car park and lifts and is in a good location in St Helier with flat easy access all around.

Hi,

I can confirm there is one on the south side of St Hellier, but your best bet speak with the specialist disabled travel teams, Thomas Cook have one and have the number on the door of their shops. In general though, you should be fine with Zoo, Jersey Gold, the war tunnels (There is a lift up to the cafe) plus an external ramp from what I remember and most main buses are low floor over there to.

The Radisson is one of very few hotels in St Helier that will GUARANTEE a room with a walk-in shower (and grab rails etc) if it's available at the time of booking. The L'Horizon Hotel in St Brelades has the same.

Many other hotels have some rooms with walk-in shower but won't guarantee one until you get there; useless if you can't manage without. Lots of them, being older buildings also have steps here and there, even in the middle of corridors at times.

Unfortunately as someone has mentioned, disability access laws do not exist here, so most hotels have not adapted.

It really depends how important it is to you as an individual. I once had a lady who couldn't manage a bath book the Merton Hotel - they don't have walk in showers but they do have lift and ramp access to everywhere and fully equipped swimming pool changing rooms, which is where she took a shower everyday! There are ways and means... :)

And if you're heading for Durrell Wildlife Park, if you phone ahead you can book a dodo mobile to take you round (it's a golf buggy!), but you'll need to give them warning so they can make sure one of their fabulous volunteers can be there to drive it for you.

Maison des Landes Hotel for disbaled people and their families is purpose built and offers all facilities including a hydrotherapy pool. Although not in St Helier their tariff includes daily excursions in their fleet of wheelchair adapted minibuses, to laces of interest including regular trips to St Helier. see
