Will be staying in Knoxville for a week, am looking for things to do in and around Knoxville, have car. Any fun experiences to be had within a reasonable distance? I like history and natural attractions.

We stay downtown Knoxville mostly and like the Old City but within a short drive is Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge. If your checking out the campus make sure to visit the "strip" which is very popular for football season!! We like Sawyers for lunch it reminds me of college! I'm sure others/locals have more suggestions!!

Frank McClung Museum

Ijams Nature Center

James White Fort

Knoxville Museum of Art

Knoxville Visitor Center

Three Rivers Rambler

Volunteer Landing

Gateway Regional Visitor Center

Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame

Oh my! Knoxville for a week as a tourist destination could quite possibly be the worst vacation you ever had. I would definitely pick some place that has more to do and see. Choose Chattanooga, Nashville, Asheville NC, even Gatlinburg would be better than Knoxville...sorry to burst your bubble.

Knoxville is an OK place to live but a very poor tourist destination.

Going to Knoxville for husbands work, need to "entertain" myself for a week while he's busy :-) gives me the opportunity to discover some very quirky places that I usually enjoy visiting.
