Scottish NASCAR supporter seeks good local advice please

One night in Knoxville so no time for the zoo ! But is Ruth's Chris Steakhouse as good as I remeber one being on my last visit to Memphis Tenn ? And where is the nicest hotel for atmosphere to stay near to there ? And I love Cracker Barrell breakfasts but where is the best breakfast in Knoxville ?

Much appreciate your advices. Yours aye

I posted yesterday but somehow it didn't go through. Sorry.

Ruth Chris is wonderful. They had a few kinks when they first opened, but I think that they are all worked out. I have heard that the Ruth Chris here is the biggest one. The restaurant is right on the Tennessee River, so it makes for wonderful views. Try to get a table on the water if you are making reservations.

For hotels, I am a fan of the downtown Hilton. However, if you are thinking of trying something with a unique atmosphere you might think about Hotel St. Oliver. 407 Union Ave. 521-0050. The rooms are on top of Market Square, so you are close to things going on. I hear great local reviews about it. Being a boutique hotel, it doesn't have room service or the like, but I love the location.

If you are here for a weekend breakfast/brunch, I like the Sunday brunches at Tomato Head (Mkt Square) and Green Hills Grille (off Kingston Pike, Western Plaza). Market Square Kitchen also has a good breakfast, but the service can be a tad slow. The Bistro downtown has a nice Saturday brunch. If you are looking for some honest to goodness home cooking, I recommend the Lunch House off of Magnolia. It doesn't look like much and the area is a bit dodgey, but it has great food.
