Ladies trip

Four of us ladies (mid-50's) are considering a quick trip to Nashville/Franklin area in mid-October. We would probably be there from Friday - Monday. Looking to just relax, shop a little, maybe take a scenic drive and eat some good food. Having been to Nashville years ago, I am thinking maybe Franklin would be a nice place to stay this time. Would we be able to keep ourselves entertained for a few days there, or would it be better to make it a day trip out of Nashville? Also, any recommendations for hotels? Don't need anything fancy, but clean and convenient are both important. Don't really prefer B&B's. Thanks for any tips.

"Day trip" is a bit of an overstatement ... Franklin is in metro Nashville, a suburb. So staying in Nashville and jaunting down to the town square is just a commute, not an excursion, ya know? If you want to stay down that way, though, there aren't any hotels in the town square area - most likely you'd be staying a couple of exits up at Cool Springs. If you are looking at newly-developed suburban America with an average mall, then Cool Springs will fit the bill. If you want quaint redeveloped historic, with a mix of indy and chain, downtown franklin. If you want truly unique shopping, check out the neighborhoods in East Nashville, 12South, The Gulch, Hillsboro Village. Also, The Mall at Green Hills is more upscale than Cool Springs and is considered a regional destination mall.

Franklin is just south of Nashville - so you can definitely do both. If you want quaint - go to the downtown Franklin. Shops, restaurants, antiques. The lodging choices are pretty much going to be off I-65, either at Cool Springs (a bit north) or highway 96. If you are interested in history, there are some great places to visit (see below links)

If you are still planning your trip do take time to visit the historic battle sites. We found the guided tours to be top notch.
