Spillway/channel near Sandy Beach Resort

Should I be concerned staying so close to this? Worried about bacterial pollution or bad smell!

That is the discharge from Wither's Swash. We've stayed at Sandy Beach many times and never had an issue and never any smell. I would caution against playing in the water from the discharge. The worst time for water quality issues along the whole strand is right after a big rain when all the runoff from parking lots, streets and lawns is dumping into the ocean.

There are swash's like that all up and down MB. I've never noticed any smell either. Just step over, and don't let kids play in it. (I have seen so many little kids sitting in it, playing...I mean they can't resist a little "river" like that, but....gross!! Their parents should know better!)

Like beachlady3 said, stay out of it and if it rains, you may want to stay back a little farther.

Here is an old article about the rains causing higher bacteria count in the swashes: wmbfnews.com/story/8849499/dhec-urges-swimme…

Thanks for the article, old but still relevant. I'm hoping for a dry spell in late July! Well, at least it's not raw sewage like Chicago, I no longer swim the Chicago beaches...
