First time, HELP!!!

My family is planning a trip to MB in July. We have 2 boys, age 11 & 8. I am so overwhelmed b/c there are so many hotel choices!!! Don't know what area to stay. Plan on seeing Family Kingdom, Broadway on Beach & the boardwalk. We want a large outdoor pool. It would be nice to have additional outdoor water activities (lazy river?). Maybe an indoor pool in case it rains but not necessary. Also need 2 queen beds at a minimum. Any suggestions for a good priced hotel that you found to be really neat? THANKS!

From a previous post I made:

We like The Sandy Beach Resort and the rooms in the Palmetto building. We've found the Sandy Beach to be very reasionably priced and conveniently located. Family Kingdom amusement park is 1/2 block south and Family Kingdom water park, the areas only oceanfront water park, is right next door. The 2nd Ave Pier is just 2 blocks north and at the southern end of the new boardwalk. The former Pavilion area is an easy walk to the north to the arcades and other downtown attractions. Access to Hwy 17 is easy via the traffic light at 3rd Ave S. 3rd Ave S also gives you backroad access to come onto Hwy 501 just before Robert Grissom Pkwy where you can easily get to Walmart on 501 or head down Grissom to Broadway At The Beach avoiding a lot of traffic on 501 and 17. It's also a short drive down to Murrell's Inlet for some great seafood in the evening. For the adults there's McAdoo's Beach Bar right on the beach on the south end of the hotel property.

We prefer the northern end of MB instead of the downtown area. It just seems less crowded and quieter. You can sign up for special e-mail offers from just about any resorts. You can also check out VRBO. We have rented condos both ways and have never had a problem. You will need a car no matter where you stay since MB is so spread out. With that being said, you can drive from one end of MB to the opposite end in about 20 minutes. Dunes Village Resort is great for kids with many water features including indoor water slides and more. If you want something a little more price friendly, you might try Beach Colony Resort right next door to Dunes Village. The building is a little dated but you definitely get bang for your buck. That area is known as the Golden Mile, which is mostly residential and only minutes from most attractions.

Also look at Carolina Winds, Monterey Bay, Grande Shores, Long Bay, Caravelle, Schooner. All these are a little more to the north end of Myrtle Beach, but a great area. And a very easy drive to the Boardwalk and Broadway at the Beach, Family Kingdom, etc. It is very easy to drive around in Myrtle Beach, so don't let location stop you from staying a little more away from the (crowded) action.

Caribbean Resort and Breakers are also frequently recommended on here, they are within walking distance of the boardwalk, but it is also a little more crowded area.

Dunes Village, or (much) further to the north, Ocean Reef. I do like Beach Colony but the pools are a little on the small side. Caribbean also gets good reviews, but as beachlady said they are a bit closer to where the crowds are.

Take a look at my favorite which is The Caribbean it has very good water amenities both inside and outside. It also has very good accomodations and you can walk to many restaurants and attractions. You should also look at The Breakers, Camelot and Dunes Village.

We have a home on the south stand. Pawleys Island, much quieter. MB it's very crowded which we do not like. Wherever you stay you will be in driving distance of most attractions.

THERE is plenty for the kids to do and most of the resorts will have the amenities you spoke of . Litchfield by the sea is a great place. Enjoy the beach just stay out of the Sun from about one to five pm.
