Just booked a family trip to Kiawah. A couple questions

We have just booked a family vacation to Kiawah. There will be nine of us with five grandchildren ages 6, 7, 13, 16, 18. We will be doing a lot of eating at the home we rented to save money. Anyone have entertainment ideas that are not too expensive would really help us. Where is the best place to rent bikes? Are any of the things that go on at Heron Park reasonably priced? Is there a grocery store that we can get all our supplies. We got a place 5 minutes from the beach and right on the lagoon. My little grandson likes to fish. Where would he go for that and would he have to have a license? Any advice appreciated.

Thanks

Janleslie

Tell Island Bike that you've found a better price than theirs at Carolina, but can they match it? That might work w/o even going into who you are renting from, if it doesn't tell them you are renting from AE and see what works. Tell the bike folks that you want 9 bikes, that's a great amount for them to drop off in one location. The odds are in your favor for a good price, just do some dealing.

We have been going to Kiawah for years and we always rent bikes from Alligator Bike. We have been very happy with their service and equipment. The location you are renting from is the part of the island we like the best. Hope you have a great time!

When are you going? Night Heron Park has a small water slide. Can't wait to hear about your experience. Checked the 'get notified' when you post. Have fun and please come back with good news.

Siena, these people have been and gone, never a report of their time on the island.

You should not post your personal email on TA, opens you up for plenty of spam.

Be glad to answer anything I can.

Everyone who has responded has given really good advise. It's great that you're planning to make most of your meals at your condo as eating at any restaurants on Kiawah would definitely be expensive for such a large family - plus as the island is mostly residential there are only a few. Is your rental unit providing any beach chairs/umbrellas? You will definitely need them - the sun gets very hot on the beach, but with wind and water it can be deceiving - you'll want protection and comfort. If anyone in your party is golfing, the golf on-island is expensive but just traveling a little off-island you can get better rates. The golf courses on-island are truly beautiful. For evening entertainment, try driving down to Bohicket Marina just left off-island - very easy. There are places to sit, and there's usually musical entertainment. Also a little ice cream shop for the kiddies.
