New Years Week with 2 teens (16,14) in IOP

Can't believe I am so last-minute with this trip! We usually vacation in South Carolina in the summer, so my points of reference are the more touristy months.

Hoping to stay in Wild Dunes. Looking to re-group as a family as well as "explore".

Have been looking at various calendar of events for our time of stay 12/30-1/4.

Any suggestions for "not to be missed" this time of year at IOP, Charleston, Mt. Pleasant, etc.??

Many thanks!

I live on the island, it will be pretty quiet. Not beach weather, at least not for swimming or sunbathing. Have you visited Charleston before? Tons to do and see there. If you have not been to Charleston, go to the Charleston Forum page and look to the right for Top Questions About Charleston and read over that. Will give you lots of ideas and suggestions.

You may want to drive over to James Island for the Festival of Lights.

The Eco tours going out of iop marina are still fun if you catch some warmish weather. Shell hunting is great in winter on the beach..no competition for the big ones that always get snatched up early in the summer. Try sea biscuit cafe on iop for a breakfast..the best...but u will have no room for lunch that day!

Check the Charleston Visitors Center website for a good listing of things to do. There is also an events calendar.

Festival of Lights is fun!

Thanks everyone, your suggestions are most appreciated, We are staying at Wild Dunes and really looking forward to our stay. I always love when we can re-group as a family, and make some special memories. This Charleston forum is so helpful, and the Visitors Center website is awesome. So far, we have planned:

Holiday - Festival of Lights, Sleigh Thriller

Charleston - carriage ride, jail tour, who-done-it theater, city market, walking, eating

Exploring - plantations, Sullivan's Island, Isle of Palms, forts

Nature - kayaking, biking, eco tours

Again, thanks!

Don't forget Dunleavy's Annual Polar Bear Punge on Jan 1st to benefit the SC Special Olympics, if you ck out their facebook page you will see some of the crazy get-ups etc., in short it's a blast.

And our water temp is currently about 10 degrees warmer than NY's..

Thanks RosieSC,

The Polar Bear Plunge looks like a blast! It's now on my list for New Years Day, thanks for the suggestion.

Just heard the Sleigh Thriller Ride is no-more, the boat has been sold to a place in Florida.

Much appreciated!
