Grand Pavilion in Wild Dunes

Thinking about booking here for our family vacation, a few questions...

How is the beach here? Is erosion a problem? Does it get hugely crowded bu the Pavilion? Is the area noisy at night? Can you get a chair at the pool?

We have 2 teens with us who I think will lke it, but we also have a grumpy old grampa too!

We are also considering a few homes around 31st & Cameron. Any thoughts on the beach there?

The beach is nice any where on the island, no erosion problems.

I live on the island, therefore I never go to Wild Dunes, so unfortunately - can't help you with the questions about that.

First, I agree with Endo that the beach is great anywhere on the island. Since the beach renourishment program was completed on the north end of the island, the situation has been closely monitored and measures have been defined to prevent the situation that got so much press a couple of years back.

The collection of multi-story "houses" in the Grand Pavilion area are generally quite nice. They are in the area of Wild Dunes with the most dense concentration of available dwelling units. There is also the Boardwalk Inn and the Village right there. It is probably the most "crowded" spot in Wild Dunes. The other crowded spot is near the downtown area of IOP where there are hotels, shops and lots of public parking. That being said, crowded on IOP is not like crowded at Myrtle Beach or Ocean City.

Grand Pavilion versus 31st and Cameron is sort of an apples to oranges comparison. You won't have access to a pool at 31st unless you rent a house with a pool and beach access will be farther away. You don't mention how many will be in your party or when you will be there. There may be better options than either of the ones you mention depending on how much space you need for your group.

Thanks to boith of you. Glad to know the beaches are great on the entire island again!

There are 10 of us, 3 generations. The private houses we're looking at do have pools, one is near 31st, the other 21st. With a baby, that may be the way to go. The 2 teens may prefer WD, but they'll certainly be content with a private pool!

Teens enjoy staring at other teens. Many of their kind will be at Front Beach, where the shops are located.
