Are Oysters in Season?

On the island now hoping not to have missed out on them. Any opinions on advisability of ordering them on the half shell?

1. Re: Are Oysters in Season?

It used to be Oyster season was in Months spelled with an R. So this being March and next month April, eating oysters on the half shell is more than OK

The R months are no longer considered oyster season. You can get them sometimes earlier or later. Our local oysters are usually not served on the half shell, but roasted. Most of the Oysters served on the Half shell however come from someplace else, usually the Gulf States. However they are still flavorful and good to eat.
