Where to stay with two toddlers?

Looking for some advice on where to stay in Hilton Head. A couple years back we stayed on Hilton Head at the Disney Resort and liked it. That said, I think for the money we spent that we may have been better staying on the beach instead of taking the van over to the beach. We are planning to vacation in June with our two young daughters (3 & 18 months). Looking for some advice on the best area to stay? The beach Disney shared with Palmetto Dunes was nice -- would Palmetto Dunes be the best option? Also, we've heard Sea Pines is a good option. We want to be on the beach and also have a nice pool for young children. Thanks in advance for your help!

We always rent a private home in North Forest Beach, including when our son was a toddler. Many have small private pools. We try to stay away from the busy areas of the beach (around Coligny Circle on the south end and Shipyard Plantation at the north end). Anywhere in between has great beaches for small kids.

Palmetto Dunes, Sea Pines and Forest beach all have great ocean front locations. Most villas have community pools, but check to be certain. Some, but not all, private homes have pools. Where you rent will be somewhat contingent on your budget. Your best bet might be to surf online to get an idea of prices in those 3 locations and then decide from there. Once you have narrowed down your choices, you can ask some specific questions of forum users on a particular villa community or house location.

Thanks for your reply -- Budget would probably be around $4,000 or less, so probably a 3BR Villa. May ask some specific questions when we narrow down the choices. Really looking for nice pool that does not get too crowded. Also, quick beach acess with the two little ones. Thanks.

I think you may like the Windsors in Palmetto Dunes. They have the nicest and newest pool complexes. The condos are right on the ocean, and you have enough in your budget for any of these.

I would check VRBO or Homeaway for private rentals.

You may have other reasons for going in June, but if you can go in mid/late May, your budget will go farther and the island and beaches will be less crowded. We always took advantage of the benefits of visiting in May when our child was pre-school age and really miss those days now that we have to pay full summer prices to visit in June.

We'd pay around $3,000 - $4,000/week for a house with pool in May 2-4 houses from the beach (2-minute walk).

Thanks, Stan. Windsor looks perfect -- is there any difference between Windsor Court, Windsor North, Windsor South, Windsor II or Windsor Place? The kids pool looks perfect for us! Plan to look at a few of the agencies you recommended as well as VRBO. Thanks.

Brian, Agree on May except my wife is a school teacher!

You have a wide variety of places to stay in Palmetto Dunes. Many villas are right on the beach. They love children, and your children will love Palmetto Dunes. Some villas even let you have your dog with you. Give them a call, I think you will be very pleased. I live in Palmetto Dunes, and just love it. The beach is right there, lots of places to eat at the beach on the beach and near the beach. And of course, the villas have kitchens where you can make breakfast, lunch or even dinner if you want to (but the restaurants are really good so forget cooking dinner unless you want to feed the children early and get a sitter; then go out for a 'date' night together. If you're coming in June or July the Fireworks at Shetlter Cove will delight your children.
