Places to put our own kayaks in?

We are coming to Hilton Head this Thursday - Sunday and bringing our own recreational kayaks (10' & 12'). Would love some tips from locals about places we should go and hopefully ideal spots to put in. We have looked at the kayak rental websites and gotten some ideas, but since we have the freedom of our own kayaks, there may be even better places around. Any and all tips would be so appreciated. Thank you!

If you are staying in Palmetto Dunes, there is an area near the first bridge where you can put your kayak in.

Otherwise try these two areas.

1 - Off of Helmsmans way, There is a public boat launch. This is between Crossing Park and Palmetto Bay Marina area.

2 - I believe you can also launch off from Pinckney Island National Monument, just of the bridge.

We are staying at the Sonesta resort. How do we kayak in Palmetto Dunes? Is there a fee to get on that part of the island?

And, can you tell me if Broad & Skull creeks are flat water enough to return to where you launch?

Thanks for the tips!

Broad and Skull creeks are tidal estuaries and, based on your question, not what you are used to paddling. The best thing to do is get a tide table, determine which direction the water is flowing and for how long and then paddle into the current until you get bored and/or tired and then just drift back to the launch. Haig Landing at Pinckney Island is across 278 from the wildlife preserve. That section of Mackays creek will be the quietest in terms of boat traffic and the least developed.
