Courtside villas Forest beach vs Queens Grant vs HHBT

Hi - we are planning a last minute trip to Hilton Head for the week of 7/4. We have never been to HH before, and I am not sure which area is better.

Our options for accommodations are somewhat limited by timing and our budget (about $1500 for the week). The three properties I am considering are all 2 bed 2 bath condos in various areas of HH. We have a 6 year old and an 18 month old. We would prefer a shorter walk to the beach and access to pools and kids activities.

Courtside villas - http://www.vrbo.com/1810 - owner says 5 min walk to beach

HHBT - http://www.vrbo.com/81633 - owner says 5 min walk to beach

Queens Grant (Palmetto Dunes) - www.homeaway.com/vacation-rental/p904329 - owner says 10 min walk to beach but says it is convenient to use the Dunes buggy.

Any recommendations and advice would be much appreciated!

TIA!

We've been going to HHBT for at least the past 3 years. We find that everything is very convenient. It has a little bit of something for everyone and you really don't have to leave the complex if you really don't want to. See http://www.hhibeachandtennis.com/ for complex details and activities

I see that HHBT - http://www.vrbo.com/81633 is one of the tennis villas which is further back. See the map at http://www.hhidirect.com/hhbtlayout.html to see where the various complex bldgs are.

If you could get a unit in one of the Ocean Villa bldgs A, B, C or in the Admiral Row bldgs, you would be much closer to the ocean and the pools. That might be harder with the July 4th wk getting closer.

With two adults and a 6 year old and an 18 month old, you could easily fit into a 1BR with two built in bunks at HHBT - probably for $650 to $750 and have a small ocean view. My husband and I went to HHBT our first time with two 18 yr old boys. At 5'10 and 6', I thought they would fuss about the bunks, but the bunks were a big hit! Check Homeaway, Great Rentals or Cyber Rentals if vrbo doesn't have anything left.

Bottom Line: We like HHBT due to the low cost, the location and the convenience. I personally would NOT rent one of the tennis bldg units as they are further back in the complex, especially with small children in tow unless you have no other options left.

I just looked at VRBO. Here are a couple 1BR units showing as available over the July 4th week. There are some others as well if you search closely.

http://www.vrbo.com/99951 - oceanfront, but missing 1 bunk

http://www.vrbo.com/63855 - oceanview with 2 bunks - really nice for kids

Good luck! I don't know anything on the two.

When Renting using VRBO remember your mileage may vary. That means not all units are as described. If you end up with a poor unit, you are stuck, since you rented from the owner.

To get an idea of the various areas of the island, Read my "Sticky" Plantations on the top of the forum.

South Forest Beach is the Tourist area of the island and that;s where Courtside is located. It is the most like a typical beach resort, and one of the most crowded.

Queens Grant is part of the Palmetto Dunes Resort, but located outside the gates. The owner is correct in stating that the PD buggy will take you to the beach, though you can drive also, you should get a pass to go behind the gates.

You have two beach areas available to you, one at the Disney Beach house, and the other at Dunes House. The latter also has a restaurant and bar available.

If you into Tennis or Golf, then you want to be a t Palmetto Dunes.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for your help, hhiguy and cinbad!

That info gives me a better idea. We are not into golf or tennis, and PD was the most expensive among the three, so we will eliminate that.:)

Cinbad, we are 3 adults and 2 kids, so we do need a 2 bedroom. I will look again for other properties in HHBT based on your recommendation before I book.

We also found a good deal at Folly Field which I am getting details on now.

thanks once again for your help!
