I will be in Charleston for 5 days but want to take a day trip to Savannah. What is available, hopefully with transportation.

Do you have a car? 'cause thats the only way your going to get to Savannah.

Its about a 3-4 hour drive as well and to be honest the town is kind of a dump.

Yes, driving is your best option, but it's closer to 2.5 hours each way, which makes for a long day. However, Savannah is a wonderful city. If you are considering going, jump over to the Savannah forum to get more information. If the drive is too much, consider Beaufort, SC for a day trip (it's about 1.5 hours each way).

Savannah is not a dump ! And, it's only about a 2 hour trip. Not sure where you're coming from, winterface.

And, I agree with gator, Beaufort is a pleasant town with neat shopping and restaurants.

Adding to the 2 above--- Savannah and Beaufort are worth the visit (if you have time!)

Savannah Dan is great walking tour---and will give you a lot of information in a short amount of time.

Beaufort is a quaint little southern town with cute shops and resturants---not a ton to do there...but definitely worth driving through.
