According to City Paper, the latest local restaurants to close are....

Cesca Italian, Bubba Slye's, 17 North and Abes Oyster House. Here is the link to the article.

We tried Cesca once, preferred Wild Olive.

We did like the way the place was decorated, they spent a lot on that.

17 North started out with great promise, but didn't hit its stride. Location and lack of ambiance were issues. Last time I was there, the food was good; but, the place was almost empty at dinner hour, and loud music was blasting through the entire meal.

17 north was terrible, Bad location, overpriced, it was like a downtown restaurant but located way out in awendaw.

Abes...you know if they had a solid concept it would have done great, but they couldn't figure out if they wanted to be a oyster place, a sports bar, family restaurant, etc. They were all over the place.

Says another taco joint will be moving in, but unless that brings something new to the table I predict another similar fate as Abes. There's already plenty of taco places already on that strip.

winterface, with those 350 apartment units going up next door, whatever goes into the old Abe's should do great. :D

Hmmm ... Good subjects for Gordon Ramsay's "Kitchen Nightmares"?

The closures are very sad for the business owners and their employees. I hope they'll figure out where things went wrong and have great success in their next endeavors.

I've been wondering what would go there. On IOP they are building a Newton Farms store.

They opened a 17 North here in Charlotte in a pretty good location and it failed pretty quickly.
