June - How hot and how buggy

We spent several wonderful days in Charleston at end of March and have recommended it to friends. Their only concern about going is how hot is it in June and how buggy. Thoughts?

June is usually still quite pleasant with the breezes off the water. June is one of our favorite months on the beach near Charleston.

Bugs, especially mosquitos, are the reality of living near water in warm weather. The bugs are not worse than they are in NJ during the summer months.

June is so much nicer than JULY! Nearing the end of June, it does heat up. They should expect around high 80's to low 90's. Yes, the bugs are here, but if we have a slight breeze things should be ok. The main thing to consider is the humidity. Much like a tropical climate, Charleston gets some really humid days...but that's why we all have AC here.

The main thing is to wear light, cool and loose clothing. Have a light shirt with long sleeves handy for evenings and in some air conditioning. A full loose skirt is much cooler than shorts. Drink lots of water and wear sun screen and maybe a straw hat with a big brim.

The mosquitoes usually only come out about dark unless you are in a wooded area or the breeze stops. There is a combo sunscreen/insect repellant but I do not know the name of it. Skin-So-Soft works great and I do not worry about having bug spray all over me - it smells good, too! It may even come in some individually wrapped wipes that would be easier to pack, especially with the air travel packing requirements about liquids.

June is great! Even in the dog-days of summer, just plan your day with outside activities being early and take a nap or shop in those air conditioned shops when it gets warm during mid-day.
