Just about every restaurant in Beaufort is "local" except for the obvious chains. I don't know of any that are not mentioned here on TA, so read the descriptions and reviews and try some.

I don't fully agree with the above comment. While it's true that Beaufort's small enough for most to be local, there are some which are more local in flavor based on patronage than others. As a Beaufortonian, there are certain restaurants that I tend to avoid due to tourist crowds or guidebooks recommending them. Even some of the non-chain restaurants are geared more to tourists than locals. It honestly comes down to what type of food you want and how much you want to pay for your meal.

As a local, I like Bricks on Boundary for basic, good, all-around American style fare; Old Bull Tavern or Breakwater for a fancier evening, and Nippy's for cheap, unpretentious, but good seafood. For breakfast, check out Palm & Moon Bagel or Shoefly Kitchen. If you want something really off-the-beaten-path and ultimately local, go visit The Fillin' Station on Thursday or Friday night for grill-out evenings (call ahead to reserve your steak or pork chop) and enjoy the patio view of the river.

Old Bull Tavern has indeed been the talk of the town for the last 6 months or so. Recent taste- their caramel corn, sweet but imbued with savory-herbness too. SuZara's Kitchen on Boundary Street is a definitely a local's gem-- just across the street from the historic district, spacious and away from the hubbub, shady parking lot, house-made breads, and a fantastic dessert selection, she supplies local restaurants. Good for lunch and take-home items sweet and savory for dinner and picnicking. http://suzaraskitchen.com/

Take Charles Street from Bay Street and park around Talbot's.
