Misquamicut beach to Mystic?

We are two families and wanted to find something that was under $200 a night for a CLEAN hotel near the beach. Most of Misquamicut beach hotels are expensive and I don't know much about them. Really liked the look of Breezway Resort but $193 is cheapest room available there. Looking to go Aug 8-10 and not break the bank. We were thinking about staying in Mystic and driving into Misquamicut beach area. How long would it be to do that and is that a smart thing to do or not? Does anyone know of a hotel near the beach that is clean and reasonable? I tend to go with chains because I know what they are like but with independant hotels you don't know what you are getting so I need some help. thanks

Breezeway is the only motel in Misquamicut I would recommend. If you can get family accomodations for $193 I would snap it up quick because there are few rooms avail anywhere. In Mystic rates are also quite high and if you figure in parking, gas and inconvenience no bargain at all. The cheapest way out would be to take one of the motels on Rte 1 corridor between Westerly and Charleston but be careful and read TI reviews.

Thanks for the reply. I should have specified that the $193 was for just one bed and was to be per family. I know that it might not seem like a lot but it begins to add up after a few days. Do you know of any hotels on rt 1 that you mentioned and would I look in Charlestown as the town? thanks for any help!!!

How about going a bit farther away? How about Old Saybrook or Old Lyme? Near there is Rocky Neck State beach where you can be at the beach and also cook out and have picnic tables? The waves aren't big like they are at Misquamicut but it is a nice beach and the hotels are probably cheaper. Also, you can still drive to Misquamicut from there but also save hotel money.

Here is one hotel I found in Old Saybrook- free breakfast buffet counts for a lot when entertaining two families! These rooms start at $95 a night.

Perfect for leisure and business travelers alike, the Comfort Inn of Old Saybrook features indoor pool, free wireless high speed internet service, Comfort Sunshine breakfast buffet, state of the art exercise room, great dining at the the famous Vinnie's Old Saybrook Restaurant, adjacent. Warmly appointed guestrooms and suites and our special style of New England Hospitality. The hotel is convenient to the shoppes of historic Old Saybrook and the Tanger Outlets, the Essex Steam Train and Riverboat. Mystic Seaport and both the Mohegan Sun and Foxwoods Casinos are an easy drive, as are all other major area attractions and businesses. Please do not request non-smoking rooms if not available. I feel like Gilda Radner on the old Saturday Night Live skit who said "Never mind!" I just read some old reviews on the hotel I mentioned- Comfort inn at Old Saybrook and the reviews were terrible to say the least. I hope my second post helps you as far as things to do on your trip however. Hope you manage to find a good, clean hotel and have a great trip!

LOL. The effort gets A plus. One thing...... Ct has no ocean beaches, just LI Sound and are not even close to the real thing. RI beaches are incredible.

There are no hotel chains in Westerly -- independent, but did you look into the Winnepaug Inn or Pleasant View Inn? Those are two good options. Pleasant View is right on the beach, and Winnepaug is on the salt pond, a short ride to the beach.

There are lots of things to do in Westerly -- we have a lively arts scene with things going on in the library, the downtown park, theatres, and concert venues like the Chorus of Westerly's Kent Performance Hall. There are movies on the beach and fireworks every week at Misquamicut.

Check out the Westerly/Pawcatuck Chamber of Commerce website and the Misquamicut Business Association website for more ideas on what to do in the area.

Have you looked into renting a house in the beach area? That might be a good option for you, since you can split the cost. Stanton Realty does a lot of rentals.

One other option may be the Willows in Charlestown. It's on the salt pond (Ninnegret, not Winnepaug) and is about a 15 minute ride to the Misquamicut beach area.

Been going to Misquamicut for a few years now. We have stayed

at the Tradewinds Motel. Great rates and 1 block form the beach.

It is an easy walk. Small rooms but really all you end up needing is

a ( clean )bed to sleep in and a shower. The motel owners are very nice people and knowledgeable of the area. They are booked probably now for the rest of the season but good to keep in mind for next year.

Enjoy... I'll be there on the 17 of Aug....
