My daughter is getting married on Sept 8 this year in Middletown Rhode Island. We are finding that most hotels require a 2 nite minimum. Does anyone know if there are 1 night hotels/motels/ B&Bs in the area?

4 reviews This far out, most places are trying to be optimistic and demand the 2 night minimums. As the date gets closer they may free up some rooms for single Saturdays.
You can reserve a room at the Motel 6 in Newport for around $90 for one night. It's no Four Seasons, but during Fall wedding season, it's certainly a place to get for one night at a low rate and then hope for something to open up as the date gets closer, if you want something a bit nicer and higher end.

IF you can afford it, go for the two night stays in Middletown over by Easton Beach which is a gorgeous area with a huge beach and the Cliff Walk within easy walking distance. Lodging in Newport is very expensive, so just by eliminating Newport from the name you are getting a deal. Be sure to book in the Easton Beach area, or Atlantic Beach area in MIddletown as it is sometimes called, and not over on the other side of town off of Rte 114 by the navy base. Congrats on the wedding, try to say sane and enjoy!
