train to Penn Station

We will be vacationing in Shawnee area. We would like to drive part way into New York City, grab a train the rest of the way. Where is the best place to get the train? We don't want a long train ride but don't know the best place to leave the car. We can drive to any number of stops to catch it but there must be a good place to leave the car and not have a 2 hour ride on the train. Any help would be great.

Since the train station will presumably be in New Jersey, you might do better posting on the New Jersey forum.

Another possibility would be to take a bus. Martz Trailways runs frequent bus service to NY Port Authority terminal. Their Stroudsburg/Delawarewater Gap terminal is not too far from Shawnee.

Trips take about an hour and a half(longer during rush hour) and cost about $32

Unfortunately there is no train service from that area to New York. There is a train station in Mount Arlington, NJ, right off of Interstate 80, exit 30. That might be an option.
