Jervis Bay or Batemans Bay?

Hi All,

My bf and I are doing a self drive from Sydney to Melbourne in Feb and can't decide if we should do our first stop in Jervis Bay or Batemans ? Was thinking of spending 2 nights at one destination. Or should we do one night in each place?

Are you camping or looking for a motel etc?

What would your third stop be, meaning what are the implications for your next day's drive?

Both are good but we usually always end up at Jervis. The Huskisson "Husky" Pub is legendary.

It's a long drive along the coast road from Jervis Bay to Melbourne.

Are you planning another stop on the way? If not, then I would recommend Bateman's Bay - or even further around Bega or Tathra - simply because it breaks the journey more evenly. Twofold Bay near Eden is spectacular.

We are getting hotels/motels. The next stop would be merrimbula or nearby and then lakes entrance in Vic. We want to go beach, fishing etc. so both places are probably similar. Not interested in any tours such dolphin watching. Which town has more to offer as in resturants, bars, pubs etc?

Hi,

Batemans Bay would suit your needs... regarding restaurants & cafes. Jervis Bay is more National Parks & stunning beaches etc.etc...

Hi,

With that cleared up IMHO Ellemay is 'spot on", although Lien will put in a vote for Bawley Pt.

Nah Bawley doesn't really work for an overnight and Lien knows that

Once you get there you want to stay ;)

We just did this trip - left Sydney Monday morning and arrived in Melbourne on Wednesday night. We stayed in Jervis Bay and Lake's Entrance. Jervis Bay basically shuts down (shops and restaurants) at 3 p.m. so it was really difficult to find someplace to eat - thank goodness for Kababalon in St. George's Basin - awesome fish and chips and great people! Along the way we really liked Ulladulah, so you might look there. Don't miss the Scenic Coastal Road, but if you do, the tourist center right after the turnoff has a spectacular lookout and great guidance. It's a long, curvy trip through a lot of forest. Once you get past Bateman's, you don't see much ocean again until Ulladulah, and then not again until Wilson's Prom. Don't miss The Prom - it was wonderful - if you can choose where to spend 2 days - spend it there.
