Byron bay for couple in our 50's

Want to finish our trip to Australia with a chilled out week relaxing by the beach. Will be flying into Brisbane from cairns, spending three nights in springbrook national park, then want to have a week based in one place. Looking at byron bay but not sure about the age profile it attracts. We love good food, wine, nice beaches and walking. Will have done a few weeks of travelling so looking to relax- not into big crowds, noise. Will be there at beg of January. All suggestions welcome!

Hi Mags, unfortunately wherever you choose along the east coast you are going to be confronted with crowds in January.

As far as Byron is concerned, don't be put off by thinking it is just for the young ones. Byron Bay attracts people of all ages, shapes, sizes and colours so you won't feel out of place, indeed, the restaurants thrive on people our age!

There are some great dining alternatives, some of the best beaches in the world and some really nice hinterland to explore if you have a car. But it will be busy

Hello, we are just planing our trip to Aus for Jan 2014. We spend the first part in Sydney, flying up to Cairns and then back down the coast to see some beaches/ Islands. At the moment we have two nights scheduled for Byron Bay, we are of similar age......did you enjoy? I was thinking much the same as you when I started looking.

Thanks

Hi Mags 414,

I think you would find Noosa may better suit.

IMHO Byron Bay attracts a higher percentage of those who aren't pleasant to be around when they have over indulged on a cocktail of legal and illegal substances compared to many those who visit many other areas.

Cheers,
