Brunswick Heads or Lennox Lead?

Debating staying at either Brunswick Heads or Lennox Head during holiday season. Family with children (ages 14 and 16) hoping to spend lots of time on the beach, swimming, possibly surf tuition, snorkel, etc. Descriptions of both sound appealing. Any recommendations based on the beach and town atmosphere offered by each?

Thanks!

Both places are beautiful, I would however select Bruny as it also has a nice river good for swimming, fishing, canoeing etc. I don't know of any surf tuition there, however Byron Bay is only 12 klms away to the south.

whoa, thats a tough one !

Probably two of our favourite spots on the planet. Honestly its six in one, half dozen at the other....

Love the Brunswick Heads pub ( good accommodation there too btw), but they do have surf lessons in and around Lennox. Both about the same distance to Byron. Both about the same level of commercialisation - cafes, shops etc...

( ie. - just right,lol)

Honestly.....I've given it a lot of thought. Even asked the kids ! (9 & 13) - answer is - either in a heartbeat. Perhaps it will get down to your accommodation preferences ?

My 2 would say Lennox in a heartbeat but they are biased because family has been in the area since it opened up in the whaling/dairy era and Lake Ainsworth.

GD rushes from the surf to the tea tree lake to rescue the hair...LOL...snorkelling has never been good around Xmas, often due to cyclonic depressions up north.

As 40ish says it will boil down to your accom...Lennox is becoming way too trendy and with the mini cyclone earlier in the year a few places are charging way more $$ than they should

Thanks so much for all the replies... sounds like we truly can't go wrong! Accommodation in LH is pricier, however the property is directly on the beach. In Brunswick, accom would be on the river with a short walk to the beach. Are the primary beaches at both locations patrolled/safe for swimming? How about provisions? We will have cooking facilities and plan to eat some meals in - are there markets in both locations to keep up with the appetites of my teenagers? :)

In Lennox right on the beach can still mean a significant walk to the patrolled area but you will be in close walk to the shops.

There's an IGA which has good supply and a great fruit and vege market and a nice butchery. As well as a few good restaurants and a seafood shop.

I can't compare the shop at Brunswick, haven't done one. But you may well find your walk to the patrolled area is equivalent.

Love both places but Lennox gets my vote, just a beautiful place and Lake Ainsworth tops it off.

yes, the beachfront places at Lennox are not in a spot that you can actually swim, in fact there is a lot of rocks and shallow reefs in the water there. But still you will hear/smell the sea and its not too far to the patrolled area.

Brunswick Heads is quite unique as the town is actually on a lovely river - very clear water, great for swimming - but only a short walk over a bridge and you are at the Surf beach which is on a little peninsula . The views from the spit are quite beautiful. I already mentioned the Pub - one of the best in the country with great bistro meals in the huge beer garden and lots of live bands.

Perhaps you can spend a little time in both ? They are similar in lots of ways but also have a few things that make them each unique to each other, and indeed anywhere else ;-)

Whichever you chose, be certain to explore the other as suggested above - as both are very nice.

Personally, If I had to choose I would stay in Brunswick Heads.

Wish we could divide our time between both, however over the holiday each accommodation requires a 7-night min. That said, we will have a rental vehicle and plan to explore the area. Question about Terrace Reserve at Brunswick... has anyone stayed there or been to the park? They have cabins, however only with availability in one that does not overlook the water (most do)... I believe the cabin has obstructed water views, however from the map appears to overlook the carpark. Is anyone familiar with the park who can comment?

Once again, thank you for all the gracious and genuine feedback!

I have thought a while on this and I'd say go with Brunz if you can find a good place to stay, as everything is a close wander, beach, river, the little protected beach near the start of the breakwater (can't remember the name) and the pub, oh the pub, fond memories :-) Suggest http://www.realholidays.com.au/ for a place to stay and if it is in late Dec/Jan you are going get booked ASAP. You say you'll have a car so can go over to the shopping centre in Ocean Shores just nearby to do major shops, they'll have everything you need there. If Brunz doesn't have everything you need it won't be far away as others have said. I love Lennox Head, as a Lismore kid in the late 60's, early 70's used to spend half my life there, esp in the ti tree lake Ainsworth, but these days I think Bruz just pips it past the post.

Either way have fun, your time there will fly by, cheerz Wabster.
