We had booked into a detached house rental w/c 11th Sept 10 in Charlestown. we were advised it was a beautiful house in a lovely area with numerous restaurants etc, however what we found when we got there was the house was in the middle of a housing estate, dirty and unloved and Charlestown consisted of one long road down to a tiny harbour with 3 pub/restaurants there. We stayed one night, (on the sofas) and left the next day (£400 lighter but with peace of mind that we were doing the right thing). We ended up in Whitby in Yorkshire - fantastic, vibrant and very similar to St Ives, where we had stayed the week prior to going to Charlestown. Never again will I visit Charlestown. Many nicer places - although Megavissey in St Austell was a beautiful place.
