Is Hershey for me? Help!

If we go to Hershey we definitely want to stay the Hershey Hotel...Even though grom what Ive read, people have many complaints...Also, Not sure if I will enjoy the park, my husband and I are 34, and of course loved Disney, but I really dont like fast amusement rides..Are there any rides similar to Disney, or that you dont find at like a Great Adventure? Something different then the usual tilt-a whirl...Also, I really want to go to the trolly tour, Choc works, and Museum...Im a kid at heart, but are these attractions really catered for kids only? Are there any quaint shopping villages, or must sees around the area....

I find Hershey to be a typical amusement park, not like Disney. There are many coasters in Hershey, but there is also a zoo and slower rides like the monorail, train, turnpike cars, kissing tower, etc. There are also some shows. I don't do fast rides either, and I find myself rather limited in what I would enjoy. They do have a relatively new Reese's cup challenge that is a ride where you can compete against your hubby in a laser shoot out. I haven't tried it out, but it sounds fun. There is also a new waterpark there.

I personally would not rule the area out, but I think I would focus more on the attractions outside the park such as Chocolate World, the trolley tour, and Hershey Gardens & Museum. The gardens are great! Hershey Park is really a very clean, well kept park, but the rides aren't really all that unique from any other park. I find that nothing compares to Disney.

As for shopping, there are outlets in the area, but I'm not aware of any quaint shopping villages.

If you enjoy caves, Indian Echo Caverns is nearby. The tour is very easy and is a nice diversion on a hot day.

Enjoy your trip!

The gardens are open year round. The butterfly house is open through 9/23. I don't know what will be in bloom at that time. We visited in August. You will enjoy the butterfly house. It's really neat!

Have a great trip.

I think you will have plenty of time. If you like caves, Indian Echo is neat. You might be able to work that in on Monday. It's not tight, so claustrophobia shouldn't be a problem. If you find you have extra time, you can always head over to Lancaster. You're only about 30 minutes away.

i have only been to hershey park once and am going again this month. but this park is not for the faint of heart- to go up and down the steep walkways you have to be prepared. we are going to try the sunset special and go in a 5 and stay til 10 for a reduced price. we loved the roller coasters and can't wait to go back!!we go to disney every two years -and we expect to do alot of walking-but at Hershey i remember one walkway i wish there was a tow rope!!

My recommendation for the hotel is to request a room in the newer wing. I had read that the rooms in the historic section had paper-thin walls and that you could hear every sound. Our room on an upper floor (Floor 7, I recall) was perfectly quiet. (The beds were also the most comfortable I have ever slept in!) It also helped that we were there mid-week in October.

You would definitely want to make time to see the Hershey Gardens. We visited them when we went to Hershey Park the first week of June, and they're beautiful. Also, there is an outlet shopping plaza nearby with the typical kinds of stores that are at most outlets, but it's still very nice. As far as a comparison of Hershey Park to the parks at Disney, there is no comparison. Disney wins hands down. Not being much of an afficionado of fast amusement rides, I probably enjoyed Hershey Park more for the various musical shows that they had throughout the park. They were really enjoyable.
