Getting to Washington Square from Airport

Heading to Portland for the first time for a course next weekend. I have most of the day free on Friday and would like to do some shopping at Washington Square. Staying at a hotel near the airport. Can anyone tell me the best way to get to Washington Square? Thanks!

BCgirl42, based on your post #4, are you thinking now of taking the MAX train (not bus) to downtown Portland, then a taxi from there? If you are staying in an airport area hotel, many (or most) of them have free shuttles to the airport MAX station.

As phirl mentioned, there are also other shopping malls which you may be interested in? Keep in mind that they will all be very busy, as it's Christmas shoppping season... ho, ho ho ;-)

Assuming you're still reading, BCgirl..... :-)

Since it's your first visit to Portland, is there any reason you shouldn't just stay downtown to shop? If you're wanting a mall experience, there's Pioneer Place ( http://www.pioneerplace.com/ ), with Nordstrom's and Macy's nearby, the festive atmosphere of Pioneer Square..... Hop on the streetcar into the Pearl District and farther on to NW 23rd Ave., two of the city's popular shopping and dining areas. Portland is an easy city to get around, both on foot and with public transportation, and you're guaranteed to have much better dining choices than you'd find at any suburban mall.

If you're set on Washington Square, I think transferring to a bus is easiest; just a short walk from the MAX stop. And you generally can't hail a cab here, so you'd likely have to call for one. On the off chance you decide to rent a car, I live within a couple miles of Washington Square, and find the easiest and quickest route to/from PDX is the one suggested at Google Maps. If it makes a difference, I plan on 35 minutes from my front door to PDX in off-peak traffic hours.

Hope you enjoy your short visit!

Thanks for the info. I think I will take the bus from downtown to Washington Square. I wish I could just stay downtown but there is a certain store that I want to go to and it is only at Washington Square. Hopefully I won't be too long there and will still have time to explore the downtown area. Thanks again!

I have a hard time when TA says post is removed because author requested it or because it did not meet posting standards. I think they should say which one. big difference. Since I did not check in while posts were still there not sure what they said, except noting Pioneer Sq was mentioned in post.
