Smoke Free

I just heard that the Pacific Coast Restaurant Company is going smoke free, even in the bars of the restaurants. For anyone that is not familiar, PCR include Henry's, Manzana Grill, Portland City Grill, etc.

Also, The Westin company is also going smoke free as of January 1st.

Washington passed their no smoking bill and that takes effect on Thursday. No smoking within 25 feet of doors too, so that will be nice for walking past businesses.

I just wanted to share this in case anyone was interested.

Hmmmnnnmmm.... I prefer smoke segregated. Hate to whip back to prohibition so early in this century.

Mamababoo--I am trying to tread lightly here, lol! I do not mind if people smoke. I just do not want to inhale any of it. Separate smoking sections do not work unless they are closed off with a door. So for my own health, I would definitely go for a nonsmoking place over another.

Scarlett--I have not heard of that restaurant. You will have to let us know how it is.

Serratto is on NW 21st, in a row of Italian restaurants. There is Cafe Mingo, Tuscany Grill and Serratto.

I will send you a review lol.

I have to agree, it is quite difficult to seperate smokers from the rest of the diners. Even having people who smoke stand outside a building..you cannot walk in or out without smelling/breathing smoke and in my case, having a sneezing fit lol. I don't know why this has happened, but for a while now, I just have to walk past a person smoking and I sneeze!

On the streetcar, there will be people around me with the smell of smoke on them, I start getting an itchy nose or it closes up and I cannot breathe..sigh. I would never do well going to nightclubs :)

Oh, Italian sound yummy! Of course with this cold I cannot smell or taste anything.

My nose does that itchy thing too with smoke. And my eyes turn red almost immediately. I have to be around it for a few minutes before I start coughing, but overall I would much prefer to just avoid it.

LOL, the Itchy Nose club ... on a forum somewhere else, I read about someone traveling on an airplane with a cat.

So many people discussed their allergies and flying with animals.

I never see anyone being concerned about their clothes/selves, smelling so smokey that people with allergies have Itchy Noses! lol..

I think restaurants who want to offer smoking sections should offer areas with very high-end air purifiers and ventilation systems in smoking areas, or offer outside seating with a smoking section.

Did anyone else see the short article in this morning's paper about the Vancouver tavern owner who set up a tent/canopy smoking area in the middle of the street? Had to laugh! She made her point, but I don't think the city was too happy.

I agree, mamababoo, restaurants or bars that want to allow smoking would do well to install ventilating systems similar to those in Las Vegas casinos.

mistletoe--I have not read the paperyet today, but I did see that on the news last night. Looked like a mess! I am sure waiters/waitresses would appreciate the ventilation things too. Great idea!
