mt. hood weather

This may be a silly question, but I was wondering if the Mt. Hood area is as overcast as Portland.

I know that Mt. Hood is pretty close to Portland, but the terrain and elevation is very different.

I guess what I really want to know is if Mt. Hood gets more sunshine than Portland (and how much more in general).

Thanks!

Depends on where on Mt. Hood, jekal. We get most of our weather off the Pacific Ocean, so clouds bump up against the west side of Mt. Hood and stay there. It might even be more overcast than Portland. The east side of the mountain, on the other hand is usually sunny and dry.

Hi elle,

You're right! My wife and I were in Santa Fe and Taos a few weeks ago. The picture is one of the photos I took of the Taos Pueblo, where natives still live in the same buildings and similar conditions as the ancestors over 1000 years ago. Interesting place.

I've never been there, but we are thinking about relocating to Portland. We have family in the city and everything we've heard--or at least most everything--sounds great. Of course, we are wondering about the weather in the city (would we be able to "handle it"?).

We would probably think about getting a cabin where we could "escape" every now and then and I would want it to be pretty close to home, but sunnier and drier. We are both avid hikers and love snowboarding and just like being in the woods.

Eventually, we would love to tackle Mt. Hood!

Sounds like you are looking on the wrong side of the mtns my friend. Take a look at Bend as we average 300 days of sun a year and are a mere 20-25 minutes to the Mt B for skiing.Endless hikes in every direction and a great town to live in.

BTW mistletoe, I am so hurt you didn't even consult me before going to one of my areas. Is this all because I though you were a woman??? How did you like SF anyway? I spent nearly 4 years there. This silliness actually brings up a good point. My wife and I are going to Beleize in dec for 10 days. Any of you locals ever been??

Hey sillybilly, don't be too intent in responding on this thread. We both may have been caught in our naivete again.

I noticed too late that you know a lot about SF. When did you live there? It was my wife's first visit, but I had been a couple times years ago. My wife describes it as "intriguing". I have to say I liked it better 20 years ago, when the only tourist "traps" were the stores that surrounded the plaza. Today it feels a little too contrived to me. Sure... good food, art, history, scenery, weather..... But honestly, had the plaza been a gaming floor, I might have thought I was in some huge Vegas casino. How's that for a raving review!!!

Haven't been to Belize, so will look forward to what you have to say about the place. Where was your tripadvisor photo ID taken?

lol! I used to work with the homeless mentally ill and one of their ideas was to get all the casinos to have compititions on the plaza every week. Not quite a gaming floor but....

I lived there 3 years ago for almost 4 years. We went back at toursists in Aug as opposed to living there and being rather poor. It was a good time, but visiting old friends had a huge part in that. The food was somewhat disappointing, especially in comparison to all the raves. So I took this photo of my wife on Playa maya in a little beachside bar in Tulum, Mx. So this is the "jackel again"??!! She must have a mental health condition. That makes me sad for her.
