Portland traffic on a Friday

Would like more opinions of traffic in Portland on Friday, Oct.5th, start of 3 day Columbus Day Weekend. We arrive from LA in the evening about 7:30PM, and our destination is Lincoln City to visit family for a few days. Should we just stay at an airport hotel that night, and leave first thing in the morning on Saturday, or drive the two hours in the dark? Is traffic bad getting out of town? Is there a better area to stay than near the airport?

We need best suggestions for hotel in LC, price no problem, as a quick glance only shows old motels.

Thank you for any other suggestions.

Get your car and stay in portland that night, go to dinner, portland has numerous restraunts that are exceptional and if you stay downtown youll have access to many. AThe drive to the coast will be nice on Saturday morning and you can take your time to possibly stop at any of the wineries in the area of Dundee and McMinnville(Yamhill County) When in Lincoln City there are some very good restraunts, Kyllos and Blackfish, both good and Andaman thai is quite good. I enjoy going to the Kernville steak house south of toen on the Siletz river. They have lights that shine down on the river and that time of the year you can watch the chinook go up the river while eating dinner, and occasionally watch the seals and sea lions chase them.

Great advice, just the kind of thing we would like to do from Lincoln City for one of the dinners. Thanks so much.

We are staying Friday night in Portland, as suggested.

Found a motel in LC, just up the block from MIL, so we booked a jacuzzi suite w/ fireplace, for the weekend. LOL She is south of town, and most places were a couple miles north, so there was not a lot of choice there.
