Where in Lane County is a good place to go swimming?

When the temperature gets into the 90's, there must be a natural swimming hole around the Willamette or elsewhere in this beautiful area.

The temperature may get into the 90s, but the rivers are all still pretty frigid, running swiftly and are dangerous (6 drownings in the Umpqua already this summer and a few in the Willamette & McKenzie). That doesn't stop people from tubing in the Willamette, even without life jackets.

There are a few lakes in the area that have some beaches with swimming (Fern Ridge Reservoir, the reservoir at Lowell and the Dorena Reservoir beaches in Cottage Grove). We've found spots along Fall Creek that work as pretty swimming holes, but only youngsters seem to be able to handle the cold water. Suttle Lake up in Santiam Pass has swimming, as do numerous other lakes in the Cascades if you're hearty enough for them. And the lagoon at Honeyman State Park in Florence is great this time of year.

There's swimming out the McKenzie at Deerhorn Landing Area, Hendricks Bridge in Springfield (again, be very careful); at Dexter Lake out on Hwy 58; at Shotgun park in Marcola; and lots of other calm spots along the rivers and streams.

If you find one with tolerable temps, safe currents and no snags, let us know.
