Two cannons found

Did you all see the news report about finding two cannons just south of town? What fun if they are the real thing from 1846 :-))

Yes, that is really interesting!

When we were in France this summer, on our train ride back to Paris we were in a compartment with a man who had found a shell at one of the WWII batteries. He showed it to us, and you could still see the gunpowder. He had to mail it home since he obviously couldn't fly with it. But I loved that he shared it with us. This CB story is fascinating in much the same way.

No, it would be "Three Cannon Beach"! They have one original in the museum there in town. It was found ....um, sometime in the early 1900's I think? I know we saw it recently, but the dates didn't stick with me, lol!

DH claims that in the 1940's the original was still on display outside of the town limits, (that'd be on the old road, of course) and they didn't take it to the museum until the 1960's.

They were actually found closer to Arch Cape than Cannon Beach.

I remember seeing or hearing that, Dengay, but what's 4.6 miles between friends LOL

If I read MapQuest correctly.

The original one in the museum was also found south of town :-)

Although it might have been 4.5 miles, lol!

Not much I must admit. I spoke w/ Dave Woody, OPRD N Coast Beach Ranger a few minutes ago and he said they are (were, they recovered them yesterday) at Hug Point State Park.

We were there that day! Very exciting! The tides were in the minus that day and several before- they were really low. We stayed at Schooners Cove in Cannon Beach but I love Hug Point and Arcadia so we drove down that day.
