4th of July activities

We'll be visit for the 4th weekend and would like to know of local events going on. We have a 4 year old son, so need "kid friendly" places.

We aren't able to leave home until Sat morning so we'll probably miss the pet parade. Where should we be to see the fireworks show? Are they pretty visable from anywhere in town?

Also a question about local breweries, are any of the Cascade Lakes Brewing locations family friendly?

You should be able to see the fireworks from most of town. The best places are generally south of Pilot Butte (we go to Hal Puddy Field) or NW (like Juniper Elementary or Hollinshead Park). There are always many people gathered at the parks and it's a lot of fun. Usually the wind is coming from the west so you won't get smoked out in any of these areas. Generally the E side of the butte catches fire, so if you want to see the flames (like we do) S is your best bet. The bowling alley parking lot is one of the best viewing areas (right at the base of the Butte) but they charge $15 for parking.

All of the Cascade Lakes pubs are family friendly. Silver Moon is also good and kids are allowed in till 7 or 8 (I think). Deschutes Pub and Bend Brewing are both family friendly as well.

There is a Farmer's Market in NW Crossing on Saturday afternoon. Saturday Market is downtown. Also there is a Bend Elks baseball game at 6:30pm (you can watch the Pilot Butte fireworks from the stadium after the game). If you have an inflatable raft you can float the river from Farewell Bend (Old Mill) to downtown - or just go play at the playground. Juniper Pool (public) has a fantastic outdoor water park and the park itself is treed and shady. Working Wonders Children's Museum at the Old Mill is great for your son's age group.

Have fun! It's supposed to be very hot so keep cool and hydrated. :-)

Just heard on the radio, there is a Festival going on at Drake Park until 4pm on the 4th. Sounds like they have lots of activities and contests planned. The park is right downtown, along the river. Hard to miss!!

Thanks for all the input. Do you have to be in town to see the fireworks? We're camping out at Tumalo SP.
