Okalahoma City as a tourist!

We will be arriving by Greyhound Bus.Staying 1 full day. Is there a tourist bus that you can get that takes you sightseeing. Not sure where to stay either. I know the Bus Depot is at 427 W SHeridan Ave OKC 73102.Have look at online Maps of OKC but are not really clear and do not show all the streets etc. We do not want to stay at expensive hotels.

Any suggestions would be great. Cheers. Louise

Nothing like tour buses in OKC that I've heard of. Sorry.

One day and no transportation pretty much leaves you downtiwn. The good news is there is the

Oklahoma City Museum of Art, the Myriad Botanical Gardens and the Oklahoma City Memorial all located downtown. And within easy walking distance of each other and the bus station.

What day will you be here because that will affect hotel pricing? Without transportation, if you have to take a taxi to and from your less expensive hotel that additional cost could offset the higher prices of some of the dowtown hotels. So date will make a difference.

Let us know and we will see if we can make any suggestions.

There is a free shuttle system around downtown and bricktown, it was a trolley but it became too expensive to maintain nd now it's a bus, but still free. Check out OKC metro transit for details.

There might also be free transportation to hotels on meridian, which would be less expensive than downtown.

Check out the bricktown area, the OK river district, and deep deuce, all within walking/trolley distance of downtown, in addition to what pp said. There is more than a days worth right in the area, so you won't need transportation. For a great view, have a drink at Vast on top of the Devon Energy tower. Have a cupcake at Pinkitzel. See the land run memorial. Kayak on the OK river. Walk the grounds of the Memorial Museum. Catch a Thunder game, with cheap loud city tickets, catch a Redhawks baseball game. Visit the OK museum of art. Ride a water taxi on the canal. Ear outside at chelinos (bricktown) or The Wedge (deep duece, my favorite). Don't miss the myriad botanical gardens. Have fun!

Let us know how your day goes.

It's a great place to visit - and live. And a lot cheaper than San Antonio.

Hello Octoboy

>>>Is there a reason for going to OK City?<<<<

I would have to say that the answer to this is an easy 'Yes'!

Admittedly, OKC is a bit light on the major attractions but there are some very good reasons to make a detour to visit the city.

The OKC National Memorial & Museum is an important and special place, probably for all Americans not just people that live in the OKC area.

The National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum is one of the finer museums we have visited in the United States and a real testimony to American Western culture and influence on the nation. That is just a treasure of a place to visit.

Lastly, Bricktown is just a fun little place to spend an evening or two. Granted, its not quite the same as your Riverwalk in San Antonio but its not bad at all on a warm Autumn night.

I hope this is helpful
