Driving to Enid where else should we go?

Hi first week of December we will be flying into Oklahoma City and driving up to Enid to visit my husband's great aunt. We have about 5 days between getting to Oklahoma City and then flying out of Dallas. We will be renting a car and would like to see anything interesting / exciting around the area we will be travelling.

We have been to CowBoy hall of fame in Oklahoma city and we love rodeo and cow boy stuff. We are from Australia - so have no idea what great things we have missed seeing in this area when we have visited before...

Thanks :)

Enid has literally nothing but an airforce base, and the drive there is very bland, so I can't recommend anything in that area.

There's plenty to do in OKC however. Bricktown is my favorite spot in OKC. Plenty of nice restaurants, sporting events (OKC Thunder!!!), shopping, and nightlife. It's admittedly a bit better in the warmer months. www.bricktownokc.com will give you more information. Quail Springs Mall is a nice mall in OKC.

Also you might check out Guthrie on your way through. It has the most bed & breakfasts in OK, the largest mason lodge in the world (old capital building), and plenty of shopping.

I hope your trip to OK is a good one!

A few suggestions:

On your way to Enid, stop off in Okarche at Eishen's Bar. Oldest Bar in Oklahoma and have some fried chicken, pickles, onions, okra and BEER. Its a fun place that will be packed on a weekend night (or most any other night for that matter).

In OKC, you should not miss the bombing memorial downtown OKC. It is really a well done tribute to that national tragedy and is actually uplifting on how the city, state and nation responded to the attack.

Another sort of "fun" dinner might be Cattlemen's Cafe in Stockyards. Have a big steak cooked to your liking. I have a sister who comes to town about once a year and she requires one night out there. Good place for a cowgirl to visit..ha

Remington Park is a horse racing park that has a casino (all slots and no table games). Not sure of the racing schedule but you might check. Its very near the Cowboy Hall of Fame. There are other more "full service" casinos nearby (Norman = Riverwind; Shawnee= Firelake are my favs)

Best "fancy" dining for a special night out would be Mahogony, The Ranch or Boulevard Steakhouse -- all in the OKC/Edmond area.

Any specific questions feel free to ask! Have a great trip!!

One point if clarification: Currently there is contract dispute between the players union and the NBA owners and there is a 'lockout' going on in the NBA. As a result, all of the preseason games and a number of regular season games have already been canceled. At this point it doesn't appear the lockout will end soon, and until it does, no games will be played, so seeing the Thunder in the first week of December does not look good.

Just thought you should know.
