Getting around cowes

If we arrive by ferry (in East Cowes?) is it easy to get to hotel areas and to the Osborne House, then back into town to get a bus out?

Ideally, we will arrive Friday night by Ferry, stay somewhere in town, then hit Osborne House first thing Saturday morning before taking bus out to Needles.

Any advice?

The IOW is fairly civilized, they have taxis and buses, and if your hotel is to the east of cowes you might even be able to walk to osborne house as at a guess its only a mile out of town, so I'm not sure what your actual question is. This maybe ? http://www.islandbuses.info/

Do you already have a hotel booked and, if so, is it in East Cowes or West Cowes? (If it just says 'Cowes', it will almost certainly be West)

Coming from Southampton, and assuming you are travelling as foot passengers rather than by car, you can get the ferry (ship) to East Cowes or the faster RedJet to West Cowes.

West and East Cowes are separated by the river Medina; you can travel from one to the other by chain ferry/floating bridge (it's all one thing, but I forget which they call it!)

There are very frequent bus services between West Cowes and Newport, from which all bus services radiate to all over the Island. East Cowes links more with Ryde (since it is on the same side of the river)

If you have not yet booked your accommodation, then I think West Cowes will give you more flexible bus travel (via Newport) to the rest of the Island. To get to Osborne House, you can either cross on the chain ferry to East Cowes and walk or bus from there, or get the bus into Newport and get a bus from there.

You can easily get a bus from Newport to the Needles and West Wight.
