Some suggestions

Hi . we will be in hersonissos from 16th June for a week and looking for some suggestions of things to do in the area. plus nice restaurants to visit while we are there. We are 26 and 21 and enjoy partying and beach/pool bar atmosphere so will take in the atmosphere at star beach and the clubs down on beach road. but also as a contrast want days out and nice long walks and places to visit that are a little more romantic. The little aquarium looks a fun few hours for one morning. anything else that are must see ? We are staying at golden beach hotel which seems to have good reviews on here

Hi there

First question really is whether you intend renting a car, buying organised excursions or using the buses. It makes quite a difference as to what's available. Thanks

trigger2002 - As you've identified the small aquarium (Aquaworld) is well worth a visit. A real hands on experience if you like that sort of thing. We visit at least once every year. Two hours for this is plenty. I'd also recommend an evening stroll up to the villages of Koutouloufari & Piskopiano (20/30 minutes). Plenty of nice tavernas and some great bars that are lower key than the bars in Hersonissos.

Hi there

The buses to/from Hersonissos are pretty good as it sits on the main north coast bus routes. Easy to head west to the capital Iraklion and from there, it's a further 20 min ride out to Knossos, or head east to Agios Nikolaos, from where you can take boat trips to Spinalonga island. partway between Hersonissos and Agios Nikolaos are the fishing villages of Sissi and Milatos and the lovely inland town of Neapoli.

There's a waterpark at Star Beach on Hersonissos' eastern end and one, Acquaplus, on the Kastelli road, a few kms south of Hersonissos but you'd need a taxi to reach that one.

Hi there

How about visitng the island of Spinalonga, the cheapest way would be to catch the bus into Agios Nikolaos from here you can either catch another bus to the small village of Plaka and then from here get the small boat across to the island (8 euros and then a further 2 euros to get onto the island) Plaka also has some lovely tavernas that overlook the island too...and a small pebbly beach for a swim after wandering around the island... or you can catch one of the boats that leave from the harbour in Agios, some of these also have a stop off for a swim and a BBQ included in the price.

As well as the above mentioned which are all excellent suggestions,if you feel a wee bit more adventurous take a look at the jeep safari, you will see it advertised around your resort.

It's a great way of seeing parts of Crete off the beaten track and some amazing scenery and true cretan life you would not normally see on the usual organised excursions, you also have the option of driving yourselves which is a unique experience in itself.

The jeep safari looks fun i had looked into one on the alrgarve but im thinking it would be better in Crete with the landscape compared to portugal.

The beaches in Hersonissos are okay, but we have usually got on the bus and ventured down to Stalis for a day on the beach which is a 10 minute journey.

Also have a wee look at the Palm beach club down on the front,it only opened last season and has a very nice pool area, bar and cafe/restaurant,it's fairly cheap to hire a nice comfy sunbed for the day and you can move from poolside to beach as well as they have an area there.

It's a fair walk into Stalis, depending on which end of Hersonissos your staying, but plenty of people seem to walk it.
