Hi CarolIan

Yes the beaches are narrow, but they do have beds and parasols. Rocky shingle beaches.

Hope you enjoy your holiday in Crete

Hi there

Hersonissos' beaches are narrow and in high season can get unbearably overcrowded with people treading around or even over you all day. I'd give them a miss and head 3 kms west to the small village of Anissaras where you have a vast , sandy beach that stretches for a kilometer to the next village west at Analipsi. Any cab driver will know where Anissaras is and will come back for you later if you agree a time with him. The beach has a variety of low key bars and tavernas along it's length where you can get a snack or a drink. Some of the beach is staked out by bars and hotels with their sunbeds but there are huge areas where you can just chuck your towel down for free.

The taxi rank in Hersonissos is at the western end of the main drag, by the fuel station and bank.

Hi,

You also have the choice of beaches at Stalis,Analipsi and Malia which are all within a short bus ride or taxi journey if the beaches at Hersonissos are not to your liking, personally i think their okay if you don't want to venture out of the resort and as posted by Yvonne they do have sunbeds and parasols which are usually under the management of the nearest beachside taverna's,some were free this year if you ate there otherwise anything from €1-4 per sunbed.

Hi there

Well, you can pretty much snorkel anywhere you like, the water is usually clear and clean but you don't get the exotic marine life that you would expect to see in the Caribbean or Red Sea, a few fish, maybe an octopus or two.

The best snorkelling in Crete is on the south coast, particularly the south west, where the mountains drop straight into the sea, and there are rocky outcrops everywhere. If you want good snorkelling, look for rocks: I'm sure there are some on the north coast too, and perhaps someone can tell you where to go.
