Greek Austerisy Measures

Hello

has anyone witnessed any signs of the austerity measures imposed by the Greek government - just wondered if it had affected the islands? or is it business as usual - are the Greks in holiday mood?

Hey and welcome reviewqueen18:-) Only the wonderful people of the Country are experiencing the result of the austerity measures imposed on them! Visitors are hardly effected..and if at all, usually positively with stable and/or lower prices! Whether they are in 'holiday mood'..only they can answer individually after all they've been through these past few years.. but bottom line, you can certainly expect to find the typical Greek filoxenia (hospitality) to prevail.. regardless of what they're feeling in their hearts! Enjoy!

Hello Litsa, thanks for your reply. We've been going every year now to either Rhodes or Crete and although we've seen signs of the credit crunch - restaurants less busy etc., we've not seen a change in the local bar/restaurant/hoteliers treatment of tourists, still being upbeat & making sure we enjoy our holiday. However this year it seems to be worse given they've had a 'bail out' from the EU. Maybe the mainland is more affected than the islands and we tourists won't see the hardship they're experiencing. I hope they can 'ride it out' - I so love the islands & their people, and would like to keep visiting there, give them our support through tourism.
