what about a day trip to Hocking Hills? can still see waterfalls, do some hiking, etc...
Or, gatlinburg, Tennessee... about a 6 hour drive from Central Ohio... about the same as the drive to niagara. can find some very affordable hotels and/or cabins, lots of putt-putt places, Ripley attractions (the aquarium is great), Dixie Stampede and other live dinner shows, shopping and walking, great restaurants, and of course, gatlinburg is right at the front step of the great smokey mountains national park... more hiking and waterfalls, neat kids programs given by park rangers too.
Indianapolis is a great town to visit as well, really neat downtown and a world renowned childrens museum.
Personally, I am dying to try the new casino in Erie PA - supposed to be very nice. Not exactly for a 2 year old or a 7 year old. Sandusky does have that indoor water park, and most kids love that! Here in Cleveland we have the Great Lakes Science Museum, and the Natural History Museum, plus the rock and roll hall of fame.
