Flinders Ranges from Adelaide

We're visiting our daughter near Adelaide in March.Part of our (my) wish list is the Flinders Ranges doing some unsealed tracks, seeing some wildlife and culture. Is this feasible or just pie in the sky.

We have about 4 days available for this and hope to hire a 4wd. I've done some off-roading in the UK but usually in the wet :) .

Any ideas most welcome would guided tours be better though cost is an issue

Thanks Gary

Yes it its all perfectly feasible - BUT you wil lneed to check with your vehicle hire compay that they allow you to go offroad (yes even with a 4x4) .

These people do cultural tours http://www.igawarta.com/exper.html but reviews are patchy and so is their attendance at the camp site. But worth a phone call or an email.

Thanks for that nozzie the tours sound ideal will pass it onto the family.

Is it really so much trouble to hire a 4wd for off road or is it just the major companies

Paul from Wallaby Tracks conducts one day tours which people seem to enjoy http://www.wallabytracks.com/

Aaron at Port Augusta also runs some very good tours.. worth looking at his website flindersoutbackdaytours.com.au/Flinders-Outb…

Also, if you stay somewhere like Rawnsley Park, Wilpena and Parachilna you will find that they can organise tours for you. Taking a tour from a location means that you can simply hire a normal car from Adelaide and drive to the region via regular roads.

Travel the "inland" route and you can stay with the locals at places such as Almerta http://www.almertastation.com.au/

Once you've had a bit of a look at the above info, post back with any questions. There are other options but this will get you started

You may be able to find one of the smaller companies which will let you do it. You just need to be veyr clear about their T&Cs.

Hi,

We did this trip last year & we hired a 4WD which we were really glad we did as the roads are not in the best conditions & its also nice to get off the sealed roads to dicover a little more.

Here is my Trip Report if this helps ...
