Groceries available - Magnetic Is

Hi, we are going to Magnetic Island in October for 8 days, staying in a rental house and was wondering about the range of groceries available. We are not taking a car over from Townsville, but hiring a moke for a day here and there. We don't really want to have to drag over food from Townsville for our stay, but not sure how available fresh fruit/veg and meat is. Is it pricy food shopping there? Any feedback would be great. Thanks

Roxy, there is an IGA supermarket at Nelly Bay close to the Ferry terminal. It has a wide variety of items including fresh fruit and veg, meat, deli etc. You will find all you need there and prices are a little more expensive than the mainland but not much.

Have a great stay.

Yes, as stated, there is an IGA right near the ferry terminal, and also a Foodworks not far away as well. Both have reasonably priced food, only a touch more than on the mainland, in our experience.

Can I suggest, if you hire a car, that on one day you hire a 4WD from the Moke place, and go for an evening drive to West Point to watch the sunset, and go to Radical and Florence Bays, all of which you cannot do with a hired moke.

There is also a general store at Horseshoe Bay to get basic items.

Island food is generally a little more expensive than the mainland due to the transportation fees.

You won't have problem - the island is tiny to drive around - from A to B..

Having a moke you are not allowed to drive down any dirt roads -

What everybody has told you is correct, and if you want something a little 'special' the small grocery store in Arcadia is the place to go, also on a Friday night there is a small market at the RSL in Arcadia where you can buy some fruit and vegies, plus homemade cakes, plus a great place to buy take away for dinner, including Thai food
