aboriginal art and didgeridoos

While in Port Douglas area we hope to find some dot and line art as well as a didgeridoo. Any sugestions on where to find quality art versus tourist junk? It would be nice to buy it in Australia rather than from internet site.

Hin Panman,

There are a couple of art galleries in Port Douglas that display/and sell Aboriginal Art.Three in the main street specialise only in Aboriginal art and crafts, you won't miss them. One is next door to a bike shop,(the longest established indigenous art/craft shop in town, holds manily local art and crafts, run by a lovely lady called Mary who knows it all and even some of the local artists).

The other two are in the vicinity, one further down the road, it also sells PNG arts and crafts and the last one across the road,a largish shop, you can't miss it.Don't know much about the last one, except that it's relatively new. Visit Mary, you won't be dissapointed in her knowledge, honesty and charm.

panman, I am also very keen on the gallery at the Tjapukai Aboriginal Park. They have an Aboriginal art expert named Collin that is the most well versed on the art than anyone I have ever seen. I am quite sure he is instrumental on buying/commissioning the art as well. They will ship, insure and guarantee your purchase and have everything from fridge magnets to the most spectacular gallery quality large paintings. I would DIE for one or ten.
